Foram as dificuldades no dia a dia dos \u00f3rg\u00e3os que fiscalizam e combatem inc\u00eandios florestais no Brasil que impulsionaram o trabalho da meteorologista Renata Libonati, pesquisadora da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) e coordenadora do Laborat\u00f3rio de Aplica\u00e7\u00f5es de Sat\u00e9lites Ambientais (Lasa\/UFRJ).
